Important: Changes to 2021 Tax Filing Requirements Due to the American Rescue Plan
You must still use your Form 1095-A toreconcile your 2021 premium tax credits when you file your 2021 taxes.
- If you received excess advance payments of the Premium Tax Credit (APTC) for 2021, you are not required to pay it back. This means you do not have to report excess APTC on your 2021 tax return or file Form 8962, Premium Tax Credit (PDF, 110 KB, in English).
- If you are claiming a net Premium Tax Credit for 2021 — even if you received an increase in your premium tax credits after reconciling and filing your taxes — you must still include Form 8962.
- You may need to file an amended tax return if you already filed your 2021 taxes and reported excess APTC or repaid excess APTC.
